Individual Biographies
Margaret
Burton, flute
Principal flutist of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra (OSO) since
1977, Ms. Burton has also performed with the Saskatoon and St. Catherine’s
Symphonies as well as the Winnipeg and Toronto CBC Orchestras. Margaret
currently teaches at the Vernon Community Music School.
Walter Burton, oboe
Principal oboist of the OSO, Mr. Burton has performed with many
ensembles including Orchestra London, Hamilton Woodwind Quintet
and the Monteaux Memorial Orchestra. In addition to his OSO duties,
Mr. Burton is a professor of accounting at OUC.
Ron Goddard, clarinet
Founder of the OUC Woodwind Quintet, Mr. Goddard is dean of the
OUC Faculty of Education. He served for 28 years on the music faculties
of Oklahoma State University, Mt. Allison University, and Brandon
University.
Edmund House, horn
Mr. House studied for two years in Munich on a Fulbright scholarship,
and has performed in the State Orquestra Sinfonica de Minas in Gerais,
Brazil. A founding member of the Okanagan’s Viva Brass Quintet,
Kamloops’ Sagewinds, and Viva Musica Society, Mr. House is
a faculty member of the Courtenay Youth Music Camp. He is principal
horn of the OSO.
Rita Wells, bassoon
The OSO’s principal bassoonist, Rita Wells started playing
bassoon at age 11 and appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia
Orchestra at age 13. She has toured with the Canadian Opera Company
and was principal bassoon of the St. Catherine’s Symphony
before coming to the OSO.
