in the Cathedral
Superb Canadian soprano and early music
specialist Julie Harris joins The Burney Ensemble in
a sensational program of Italian cantatas and instrumental
music, including two extraordinary cantatas by the little-known
vocal composer Alessandro Melani. Readings will be drawn
from the writings of singing masters Agricola and Tosi,
trumpet master Fantini, and the travel writings of Charles
Burney. |

MARLEYN-LAIMON
DUO
Winnipeg & Montreal
'Cello and Piano
Cellist, Paul Marleyn and pianist, Sara
Laimon have been performing together for many years.
Their collaborative partnership dates back to Merkin
Hall, New York City in 1990 when they appeared as guests
in a concert at Yale University. Since then they have
appeared regularly as a duo across Canada and in the
US, notably in Vancouver, Winnipeg, on the US East Coast,
and numerous times on the CBC and WQXR networks. Last
season they presented the 2nd Agassiz Summer Music Festival
in Winnipeg as Co-Artistic Directors, and performed
the complete set of Beethoven Sonatas in Winnipeg (broadcast
by CBC) and in Vancouver. |

well-loved pianist, Arnold Draper, will perform with
two of Canada’s shining stars, Simon Cole and
Jasper Wood. Cole has been hailed as having “every
ability and quality a musician could want.” Wood
is presently one of Canada’s most sought-after
violin virtuosos, appearing at many summer music festivals

String Quartet
Winners of the 2001 Banff International
String Quartet Competition
Formed only two years ago and entering
their first string quartet competition, this quartet
swept the prizes at the Banff International String Quartet
Competition last year with best performance of a Beethoven
quartet; best performance of the commissioned piece;
and first prize overall. Critics have marveled at their
maturity, their technical virtuosity, and their musicality.
This concert is part of a tour, offered to the first
prize winners. The quartet's programme will include
a performance of Test Run by Canadian composer John
Estacio, commissioned by the CBC for the competition. |

Founded in the Fall 2001, the OUC Woodwind
Quintet is the first artist-in-residence ensemble of
Okanagan University College. Four of the group are professional
musicians and Principal players for Okanagan Symphony
Orchestra. The fifth has been on university music faculties
for many years. Chamber Music Kelowna, is delighted
to welcome this exciting new quintet onto our stage
this season. |
