Vogler Quartet of Berlin
String quartet
Tim Vogler, 1st violin
Frank Reinecke, 2nd violin
Stefan Fehlandt , viola
Stephan Forck , cello
Formed in East Berlin in 1985 and still with its original members, the VOGLER QUARTET quickly established itself
as one of the finest quartets of its generation. Mastering a vast repertoire from all periods and musical styles,
they are widely recognized for their uncommon musical intelligence, highly creative playing, homogeneous sound,
powerful interpretations and unconventional programming. They now pursue an international schedule, which includes
all the major musical centres of Europe, as well as prestigious venues in the United States, Canada, Japan, Israel,
New Zealand and Australia.
"This, simply, was a marvelous exhibition of the art of
string quartet playing. The Vogler Quartet...demonstrated all the qualities one hopes for, but rarely
encounters, in a chamber group: an extraordinary unanimity, a rich sound and impeccable balance."
- Stephen Pettitt, The Times, UK

I Musici de Montréal
Chamber Orchestra
Heralding the Christmas season, the 15-piece chamber orchestra, I MUSICI DE MONTREÁL will perform under the dynamic
direction of Maestro Yuli Turovsky. This orchestra, heard regularly on CBC radio, performs over 100 concerts annually.
Its precision, cohesion, brio, and distinctive sound charm audiences and critics alike.
The concert will feature an arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. The work was originally inspired
by a small collection of art works exhibited on the death of Mussorgsky's friend, architect and artist Victor Hartman.
These paintings were lost, and Yuli Turovsky has commissioned a set of oil canvases to be painted, based on Mussorgsky’s
music. These paintings will be projected on a screen above the orchestra during the performance.
Since it was founded in 1983, the orchestra's more than forty recordings have been distributed in 48 countries. I Musici
has been awarded many honours, including Best Chamber Ensemble of the Year from Canadian Council of Music in 1987. In 1996,
the orchestra received a "Félix" and a "Juno" for Best Classical Album. In 2002, the Quebec Music Council awarded their
coveted CD of the Year Award to I Musici de Montréal and cellist Yuli Turovsky for their latest release titled "The Modern
‘Cello".

The Jupiter String Quartet is one of the strongest young string quartets in the country." - New York Sun
Program
Watch this spot in Fall ’05 for the program. The Banff Centre, who is organizing this Winners
Tour of the Banff International String Quartet Competition, says "we tend to like to give our quartets a bit of time
before they decide on what repertoire to take on tour simply so that they can choose the repertoire that is the freshest at
that time."
