May 2020 Update to our Subscribers

Dear Subscribers and Friends –

As you know, we had to cancel the last two concerts of CMK’s 2019/20 season under directives from BC Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry which banned large gatherings. For the last month, we have been trying to find ways in which we can go forward with the concerts planned for our 2020/21 season. Normally in May, we would be asking you to renew your subscription seats for the new season this month, but we are not able to do so at this time.

The BC Restart Plan announced last week by Premier Horgan and Dr. Henry envisions a return to live concerts as the final phase in the Restart. There is presently no announced date for this phase which will begin only when risks of spread of Covd-19 at large gatherings are offset by wide availability of a vaccine or broadly successful treatments. We believe it is unlikely we will arrive at this happy time in the next year – though we want to maintain a hopeful optimism. As soon as the situation improves, we will of course be in touch with you.

Here’s what we are doing to navigate this uncertain time:

  • We are attempting to reschedule to future seasons those artists whose appearances in Kelowna are affected by the suspension or concerts with audiences of more than 50. We face some challenges in this task due to limitations on international travel because no one knows when these will end. There are, however, a number of excellent Canadian groups affected who we trust will be able to plan confidently for a future visit.

  • The RCA is currently closed until August 31 but we continue to work with them on our planning for future seasons. Processing the donations, credits and refunds subscribers have requested in connection with the canceled concerts in March and April is now able to proceed since the Box Office staff person responsible for this has been called back to work.

  • We are undertaking a website renovation at so that you will be able to find the most up-to-date information about CMK’s programs more easily. We plan to launch the updated website later this summer.

  • We are hoping to spend some time re-examining our educational and community outreach programs. We need to find some additional willing volunteers for this effort, so, if you are interested, please contact us.

  • We are asking the RCA Box Office to save your seats in their system.

We are confident in your continuing support for Chamber Music Kelowna during these difficult times. The Board wants to reassure you that CMK remains strong and dedicated to the goal of returning to the stage as soon as possible to bring the best in classical music to Kelowna audiences.  And, of course, we remain committed to the health, safety and well-being of our audiences, guest artists, staff and volunteers above all else.
