German composer Robert Schumann fell in love with a young virtuoso pianist, Clara Wieck.  Despite adamant opposition from her father throughout their courtship, the couple sought legal consent and was wed in 1840.  During this time, thousands of letters were written between them that provide the inspiration for this music-as-theatre performance.

A new musical concept, The Schumann Letters has been enticing audiences with a unique combination of storytelling, piano music and song.  Drawn from thousands of historic letters, this show explores Schumann's life, love and music by delicately intertwining narration with Schumann's original compositions.

The Schumann Letters is narrated by JUNO/GEMINI winner Colin Fox, with Michael Kim, piano and Susan Gilmour Bailey, soprano.  Often garnering standing ovations, the production has seen more than forty performances in cities ranging from Outlook SK, to Toronto ON, and Whitehorse YK, to Halifax NS.  In the 2009-2010 season, the show was selected by Prairie Debut to be part of their touring roster.  It was also featured in a national CBC broadcast sparking interest across the country.  The Schumann Letters has performed in a number of summer festivals including the Ottawa Chamber Festival and Festival of the Sound, to name just a couple.  In addition, the show has toured internationally to Kuwait and to Sussex, UK.  Next season, The Schumann Letters will again tour throughout British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
